Trustees & People

The Tectona Trust Trustees:

Chris Rowsell (Chairman).Chris was formerly the Director of CHIRP, the friendly face of marine accident reporting! While studying in Plymouth to become a Master mariner and BSc in Nautical Studies, he was a trainee on board Tectona in the 1970's. Chris went on to become a senior Marine Operations Manager with Shell and has had his own consultancy business since retiring in 2005. He is a very active dinghy sailor.

Capt. Tim Charlesworth is the Chief Executive and Harbour Master for the Cattewater Harbour Commissioners in Plymouth. He joined the Harbour Authority in 1997 after 26 years at sea on oil tankers, 11 of them as Master. He started his seagoing career with Shell in Plymouth in 1970 and studied for all his certificates of competency at the School of Maritime Studies there. Tectona was then owned and operated by the School and Tim was one of many cadets who sailed on her as part of his education, and he retains fond memories of her from the 1970's.

Charles Hattersley A former Royal Navy officer and keen yachtsman, Charles is a partner with Ashfords Solicitors where he specialises in maritime law.

Dr Roger Crabtree is the (unpaid) Chief Executive, and technically the owner of Tectona. Roger is an early-retired GP who has spent as much time as he can on and around the water since the age of about 8. He holds a postgraduate qualification in Drug Mis-use Care, and is keen to see sail training brought to this large and most needy group of people.

Andrew Eccleston and Paul Wright, both former Lecturers at Plymouth University are Advisers to the Trust.

Ben Williams is Tectona's Skipper, Laura MacLaughlan is the 1st Mate, Andrew Dumbelton is the 2nd Mate.
